Bath Police Department were dispatched

On the morning of August 14th, 2024, officers with the Village of Bath Police Department were dispatched to 1 Liberty Street for the report of a Burglary. It was reported that someone had entered into the building unlawfully and stole various power tools and hand tools totaling over $2,000. Responding officers processed the crime scene and located multiple pieces of evidence.

A receipt was discovered inside of 1 Liberty Street, which ultimately lead to the identification of the initial suspect who was shown on camera purchasing items found within the crime-scene. Patrols then conducted multiple other interviews which resulted in more suspects being identified. During the course of these interviews, some of the stolen property was located and returned to the owner. Local businesses cooperated with the Bath Police Department by providing video footage which showed these suspects stealing the tools. Following the investigation, arrest warrants were requested through the Bath Village Court.

On August 28th, 2024, the Bath Village Court issued the arrest warrants. As a result, the following individuals were arrested and charged as follows:

Daniel A. Garcia, age 45 – Burglary 3rd Degree – Class D Felony

                                            Petit Larceny – Class A Misdemeanor

                                            Conspiracy 5th Degree – Class A Misdemeanor

Thomas L. Popps, age 35 – Burglary 3rd Degree – Class D Felony

                                            Petit Larceny – Class A Misdemeanor

                                            Conspiracy 5th Degree – Class A Misdemeanor

Shane S. Fox, age 45 – Petit Larceny – Class A Misdemeanor           

                                      Conspiracy 5th Degree – Class A Misdemeanor

Elizabeth R. Walker, age 32 – Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree – Class B Misdemeanor         All suspects were arraigned, Shane Fox and Elizabeth Walker were both released and are to return to Bath Village Court at a later date. Daniel Garcia and Thomas Popps were both remanded to the Steuben County Jail.
